Edmonton Parents Get Together

EPGT was founded in 2019 by Christina Kaklinowski, Sarah Shears and Sylvie Leithgoe. The Facebook group aims to help build a positive network for parents living and raising their children in N9 and N18. Members share local info, groups and pre-loved items to give away, and much more. Following the pandemic, EPGT setup and hosts a brand new Play Street event on Exeter Road N9 - a regular Sunday afternoon road closure for children to ‘play out’ on the streets where they live, and for adults to chat and connect. Families from all over Edmonton have contributed to and taken part in these events which are FREE and include lots of different art activities, games and snacks so children are able to have fun right outside their front door. Play streets are a great way to bring the community together. By closing the road for a few hours to through traffic, children are able to reclaim their street and play safely, all on their doorstep. Since it began, Exeter road’s play street has seen 100s of people come together to play, chat, dance, swap plants, get creative and eat cake! We also run themed art activities alongside the event to give children the opportunity to get messy and creative.

In the winter months, EPGT run local window trails in the lead up to Halloween and Christmas. Designed as a contactless way for families to decorate and brighten up their front windows, the aim was to offer local families a free and contactless trail to explore in the darker evenings. We secured funding to offer Edmonton families a free craft pack with a variety of materials and suggestions to decorate their windows, creating a community public art trail. 50 families received a craft pack and we created an online map for residents to use when looking for decorated windows.
